URGENT EYE CARE
Common Questions

placeholder

Seek immediate care for sudden eye pain, redness, flashes of light, new floaters, vision loss, double vision, chemical exposure, or injuries. These symptoms can indicate serious eye conditions that need same-day evaluation.

Most eye emergencies are better treated by an optometrist with emergency equipment than in a general ER. Progressive Eye Care provides same-day treatment for most urgent eye problems … without the lengthy wait and cost of an ER Visit.

Yes. We reserve time every day for urgent cases. Call us, or click the “Urgent Symptoms? Start Here” button for immediate help.

Yes. Flashes or a sudden increase in floaters may indicate a retinal tear or detachment. You should be evaluated same day.

Do not rub the eye. Try flushing gently with saline or clean water. If discomfort, redness, or blurry vision continues, call us immediately for same-day removal and treatment.

Yes. For chemical exposure, rinse the eye with water for 10–15 minutes and call us immediately. Fast evaluation is critical.

Yes. We treat all types of eye infections, including pink eye (conjunctivitis), styes, keratitis, and contact lens–related infections. If your eye is red, painful, swollen, or producing discharge, you should be evaluated to prevent complications.  Our team can help determin if you should be seen same day or next day.

Do not rub your eyes or use leftover prescription drops. Stop wearing contact lenses immediately. Warm compresses may provide temporary relief, but you should schedule a visit so we can determine the cause and prescribe the correct treatment.

Sudden eye pain can be a sign of a serious problem such as inflammation, high eye pressure, infection, or injury. Call us right away for urgent evaluation. Some conditions require treatment within hours to prevent vision loss.

Sudden blurry vision, dimming vision, wavy or distorted lines, flashes, or new floaters should always be treated as an emergency. These symptoms can indicate retinal issues, swelling, or changes in eye pressure. We provide same-day diagnostic testing to identify the cause and ensure prompt treatment … so you don’t have to worry!

Double vision can be caused by neurological conditions, eye muscle problems, or sudden ocular misalignment. It should never be ignored. If you are seeing double with one or both eyes, call us immediately for urgent evaluation.

Yes. Corneal scratches are common and often very painful. They usually require medicated drops and careful monitoring to prevent infection. We offer same-day treatment to relieve pain and protect your vision.

Yes. We safely remove foreign bodies such as metal, wood, dust, or contact lens fragments. Do not try to remove embedded objects at home. Call us for same-day care, even after hours.

If you have severe trauma (such as an object penetrating the eye), bleeding, call 911 or go to the ER. For most other eye emergencies, Progressive Eye Care provides faster, more specialized eye treatment than a general ER.

Medical Eye Care for Ongoing Eye Conditions

Dr. Jeffrey Broadhead

Not all eye concerns are emergencies — but many still require professional evaluation and ongoing care.

In addition to same-day urgent visits, Progressive Eye Care provides comprehensive medical eye care for conditions that may not require an ER visit but still deserve timely attention.

Our eye doctors diagnose and manage a wide range of medical eye conditions, including:

  • Glaucoma and elevated eye pressure

  • Diabetic eye disease and diabetes-related vision changes

  • Macular degeneration

  • Chronic or recurring eye infections or inflammation

  • Floaters or gradual vision changes that are not sudden emergencies

If your condition is ongoing or previously diagnosed, we’ll help you create a personalized care plan and monitor your eye health over time. When appropriate, we coordinate care with your primary care physician or specialist.
