Jeff Broadhead, O.D.
Dr. Broadhead received his Doctor of Optometry Degree, graduating “with distinction” from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1998. A recipient of a coveted United States Air Force Health Professions Scholarship, he served for three years as Chief of Optometry at Malmstrom AFB in Great Falls, Montana. During his time at Malmstrom AFB, he was an adjunct professor of optometry for Pacific University College of Optometry and the Illinois College of Optometry. In 2000, he was named Air Force Space Command Optometrist of the Year.
Dr. Broadhead founded Progressive Eye Care in 2005. In addition to general eye care for adults, children, and seniors, Dr. Broadhead offers care for patients with glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, and corneal disorders. Dr. Broadhead is a member of the Utah Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and American Academy of Orthokerotology and Myopia Control.
Ever since his time as a business major and “pre-optometry” student at Brigham Young University, Dr. Broadhead has participated in humanitarian eye care missions to Mexico. He led two such missions as a fourth-year optometry student to Jalisco, Mexico, and continues his efforts to gather used glasses to benefit the underprivileged as a member of the Lions Club.
Dr. Broadhead and his wife, Melanie, have resided in West Jordan since 2001. Their large family of 11 children, most coming to them through adoption and foster care, represent children of many ethnicities. He and his wife enjoy travelling. Their favorite places to visit are Canada, Mexico,and Peru.
Michael T. Chism, OD
Dr. Chism earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Laie, Hawaii with summa cum laude. He went on to complete his Doctorate of Optometry at Western University College of Optometry, Pomona, California as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society.
Dr. Chism is a therapeutic optometrist certified in glaucoma and orthokeratology (corneal reshaping therapy).
He is trained in the treatment and management of eye diseases, specialty contact lenses, dry eye, and the preoperative evaluation and postoperative care of patients.
Dr. Chism is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Utah Optometric Association
Dr. Chism speaks Spanish fluently and loves to travel. He spent six months backpacking with his wife, Nichole, through South and Central America where he learned to fly fish in Patagonia. He is an avid snowboarder who loves the outdoors, scuba diving, and spending time with his wife and two children.
Francis J. Wapner, MD, FACS
Dr. Wapner owns Advanced Eye Care in Salt Lake City. Two half days a week, he brings his practice to Progressive Eye Care in South Jordan, providing us with access to a complete range of eye care services, including Lasik and Cataract Surgery.
Dr. Wapner completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. He continued his studies at Columbia University where he received his doctorate in medicine.
Dr. Wapner served his internship at the University of Utah/LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Following his internship he went on to become Chief Resident at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia University.
Dr. Wapner serves as a clinical instructor in Ophthalmology at the University of Utah. He is the Medical Director at the Physicians Surgery Center, as well as the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at St. Marks Hospital.
Dr. Wapner is board certified by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a Fellow in the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Board of Ophthalmology, and American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
Michael S. Hope, OD
Dr. Michael Hope joins Progressive Eye Care having received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Midwestern Arizona College of Optometry (2023). Dr. Hope grew up in Herriman, Utah. He graduated from Itineris Early College High School with an associates degree and received a bachelor’s in Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, from Southern Utah University (2019).
He is a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), the Utah Optometric Association (UOA), the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (AAOMC), and the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor’s Society.
His professional areas of interest include glaucoma, dry eye, orthokeratology, scleral contact lenses, and diabetic eye care.
Dr. Hope served a mission for two years in the Dominican Republic and is fluent in Spanish.
He enjoys cooking or smoking new foods, spending time with his wife and daughter, hiking, and watching movies. Dr. Hope is a big Star Wars fan.
