When Dr. Jeffrey Broadhead founded Progressive Eye Care in 2005, he started with just one simple goal: create a place where every patient feels seen, heard, and genuinely cared for.
He opened the practice “cold”—no patient base, no shortcuts—just a vision of delivering personalized, professional eye care and contributing to the local community by creating jobs and growing the local economy. Today, Progressive Eye Care is known for combining advanced medical expertise with a warm, family-centered approach to patient care.
A Career Built on Service
Dr. Broadhead received his Doctor of Optometry degree, graduating with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1998. After earning a United States Air Force Health Professions Scholarship, he served three years as Chief of Optometry at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana.
There, he also taught as an adjunct professor for both Pacific University and the Illinois College of Optometry, helping train future doctors. In 2000, he was honored as Air Force Space Command Optometrist of the Year—a recognition of his dedication to clinical excellence and service.
Compassionate Care for Every Stage of Life
At Progressive Eye Care, Dr. Broadhead provides comprehensive eye care for adults, children, and seniors, along with medical care for glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts, dry eye disease, and corneal disorders.
He also has advanced training in specialty contact lenses, orthokeratology, and myopia management, offering solutions for patients who need more than standard glasses or contact lenses.
He is an active member of the Utah Optometric Association, the American Optometric Association, and the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control.
A Life of Service—At Home and Abroad
Dr. Broadhead has a deep connection to Spanish-speaking communities. As a young adult, he served as a Spanish-speaking missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an experience that shaped his lifelong commitment to service and cultural understanding.
While studying “pre-optometry” and business at Brigham Young University, he began participating in humanitarian eye care missions to Mexico. As a fourth-year optometry student, he led two missions to Jalisco, Mexico, and continues to support underserved communities through ongoing efforts with the Lions Club.
Family, Music & The Things That Matter Most
Dr. Broadhead and his wife, Melanie, have lived in West Jordan since 2001. Together they are parents to a large and diverse family of 11 children, many of whom came to them through adoption and foster care. Their home is full of love, noise, culture, and constant activity—something Dr. Broadhead considers one of his greatest blessings.
He also has a lifelong love of music. He grew up playing drums in his father’s country band in Canada and continues to write and record original music today.
Whether he’s caring for patients, teaching, serving abroad, or creating music, Dr. Broadhead brings the same sincerity, kindness, and thoughtful attention to everything he does. Patients often say that it’s this combination of expertise and genuine connection that makes their experience at Progressive Eye Care stand out.
