Am I Going to Go Blind?
Whenever anything goes wrong with our eyes, our first instinct is to worry “Am I going to go blind from this?”
Thankfully, most eye problems don’t cause blindness, but some eye diseases can. Of course, a few Google searches later, any symptom search can leave us pretty freaked out, convinced we’re about to die or lose vision.
That’s where a visit with a real eye professional can be a source of needed reassurance and real answers.
Is My Eye Problem Urgent?
If in doubt, get checked out! Here are some symptoms that tell you it’s time to call your optometrist and ask for an Urgent Eye Exam:
- If your eye is painful, like it’s been scratched (you might have an abrasion or a corneal foreign body)
- If your eye is red, painful, and sensitive to light (you could have a corneal abrasion, or even a corneal ulcer)
- If you have a sudden decrease in vision, with or without eye pain (it could be everything from and eye stroke to a migraine)
- If you suddenly see double, especially if it’s never happened before (double vision can be caused by strokes or even a tumor)
- If you see flashes of light in your vision, with or without new floaters (it could be a retinal detachment)
After-Hours and Urgent Eye Appointments
At Progressive Eye Care we are open from Monday to Saturday, with morning and evening appointments. Most of the time, we can help most eye emergencies during office hours. However, eye pain, eye injuries, and suddent vision loss can occur at any time of day. We are always happy to help, even after hours or on Sundays.
Our phone system gives the option to be forwarded to the doctor on call for urgent after-hours vision needs.
Our staff is also trained to give priority to urgent eye needs. When you call, we will take care of you! We’ll be there when you need us!
Because we are open late and on Saturdays, and because we make ourselves avaialble when needed — for the fraction of a cost of an ER Visit — we have helped people from our location in South Jordan, some coming from surrounding towns such as Herriman, Riverton, West Valley, Salt Lake City, Sandy and Draper.
