What is “Myopia Control?

Myopia Treatment

Alarming Trends

Eye care professionals the world over are concerned about the dramatic increase in the incidence and severity of myopia in children and adolescents.

Today 1 in 3 children is myopic (or nearsighted).  In some Asian populations, 84% of teens are nearsighted.

Are genetics to blame?  Screen time and cell phones?

Why is Myopia a Big Deal?

With traditional eyeglasses, the earlier a child becomes nearsighted, the higher their glasses prescription will end up when they are adults.

Being really nearsighted it not just inconvenient.  Super high myopia results in much higher risks of certain eye diseases.

What is Myopia Control?

Myopia control is a term used by ophthalmologists and optometrists to describe novel therapies aimed at slowing the progression in children and adolescents.

Therapies such as Ortho-K, atropine eye drops, and multifocal daily-disposable contacts are used to help kids and teens keep their nearsightedness from getting worse and their glasses from getting thicker.
